Build Stages

Build Stages

1) Traditional strip concrete foundations with solum and timber joisted floor

Strip
Stage 1

Traditional strip concrete foundations with solum and timber joisted floor .
Typically the earth is dug out to 600-700 mm depth and then concrete poured in , commonly 600 wide x 200 deep.

Strip
Stage 2

Concrete blocks are then build from there to 150mm above finished ground level

Strip
Stage 3

The solum is poured (  typically 50mm concrete ) and then the  timber joisted floor it built up from the blockwork and the insulation is installed between the joists

2) Traditional strip concrete foundations with fully insulated            concrete raft foundations.

Foundations Stage 1
Typically the earth is dug out to 600-700 mm depth and then concrete poured in , commonly 600 wide x 200 deep. Concrete blocks are then build from there to 150mm above finished ground level.

Foundations Stage 2

The area is backfilled with type 1 hardcore material and the extruded polystyrene (XPS) insulation is laid down. Concrete is then poured over the insulation ( typically 150- 200 deep)

3) - Fully insulated concrete raft foundations

Raft
Stage 1

This is a relatively new concept in the UK but is now becoming the  preferred method of achieving an eco or passive house. It offers a fully insulated no risk of cold bridging solution.

Raft
Stage 2

The ground is stripped back to the sub soil and then the complete footprint of the house id levels off with free draining gravel. The insulation is then loose laid and infilled with concrete.
